Tips and Tricks to Prepare your home to Sell

A TIDY SPACE IS AN INVITING SPACE

Get started today! And if you don’t plan on selling you will have a clean home!

Here are some of my tips to get your home market ready! Reach out to me if you are ready and I can help take your home to the next level! If you don’t plan on selling, then this is a great way to get some spring cleaning done!

1) De-Clutter: Pack it up, donate it, or throw it out! Impose the Marie Kondo method or do your own method! Often times we let things just pile up and don’t even notice the clutter anymore. Go through those piles and make a point to simplify. My advice is go room by room. Tackle one a day and start with the hardest one first. For me the home office is where all the papers gather! I feel so free once I get that accomplished.

  • Take down photos of your family

  • File away and lock up important papers

  • Closets get everything off the floor (gives an appearance of more space!)

  • Nicknacks simplify and dust those shelves.

  • Take out unnecessary furniture that is old and distracts the eye.

2) Deep Clean: not only will be visually appealing but give a good smell to the home.

3) Touch up: Those high traffic areas of the home might need a touch up. Maybe paint the walls, replace the carpet. Fresh paint helps eliminate odors and will be very appealing to buyers.

4) Outside: Don’t forget the curb appeal that is the first thing a buyer sees!

Make the front of your home stand out!

  • Clean light fixtures and make sure they work

  • Front Door: does it need painting? Is the hardware old and worn out? Is there a clear path to the front door?

  • House Number: Is it visible from the street

  • Decor: Planters have fresh flowers, doormat clean and inviting.

5) Don’t Buy Anything New: work with what you have and when in doubt take it out!

Remember, the buyer is not looking at your things, they are looking at the house. Your items in the home help give a reference for space so that they can visualize their own things in the house.

One last bit of advice is make sure all the systems and appliances are working, if not it will come up in an inspection!
